POSITION SUMMARY
Accepting applications for an operating engineer position in our Tenant Service Center (TSC), which sits at the heart of our engineering operations. The TSC is a world class command and control center where 80+ of JBG SMITH’s buildings are managed and controlled from a central location. From this center, all of our buildings are operated, including the control of all set points, schedules, and alarms. In addition, the TSC supports our onsite engineering teams and serves as resource for troubleshooting, optimization, and a host of other engineering and facility management activities. This role will have responsibility over one of the largest real estate portfolios in the country.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
We are recruiting an operating engineer that will serve a central role on our team and have responsibility for mechanical operations across our portfolio, including the starting and stopping equipment, managing setpoints, responding to alarms and faulted equipment, scheduling equipment, troubleshooting HVAC issues, and other activities in commercial office and multifamily operations.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO SUCCEED (REQUIREMENTS)
This job post is for 3rd shift, Wednesday through Saturday, and as business conditions change, shifts are also subject to change through the course of employment.
Candidates should have experience using building automation systems, such as Siemens and Tridium, and be comfortable following procedures to address system alarms and malfunctioning equipment. Experience programming BAS systems is a plus. This role also reviews building performance reports from previous time periods to identify anomalies, underperforming or malfunctioning equipment, and identify solutions to remedy operational issues. This requires creative problem solving, the ability to self-educate through online learning and research, and a natural curiosity and interest in learning and analysis. Very strong technical knowledge of HVAC system is required, and strong quantitative skills are a plus.
Communication and phone etiquette skills are very important and candidates must be reliable and dependable with excellent attendance and have schedule flexibility to respond to emergencies and shift overage.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is subject to extremes of temperature while working in mechanical rooms or with outdoors. The employee is regularly exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather), work near moving mechanical parts, high voltage electricity with risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to work in high precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and extremes of outdoor weather conditions and temperatures. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and occasionally requires the use of hearing protection equipment.
