  • Vice President, Retail Construction - Development

  • Overview

    The VP – Retail Development & Construction is an executive role spanning the life of a retail development project from inception through construction completion.  This position will work on multiple projects simultaneously while managing internal and external resources to achieve overall company and project deadlines / goals.  This position will play a leadership role during the Pre-construction phase of a project, helping identify and assess risk, manage expectations around cost, schedule, quality and feasibility of the retail component of a development to ensure the decisions made in concept become reality.  This role will also provide strategic leadership, direction, management and the vision necessary during construction to ensure the overall successful delivery of each project. 


    • Assist in establishing the overall retail program and associated budget for each project and retail space
    • Oversee integration of retail aspects into larger mixed-use projects
    • Interface with retail leasing group to maintain merchandising strategy from concept design through project delivery
    • Develop retail shell conditions, work letters, and tenant fit out schedules and budgets
    • Assist leasing in retail lease negotiation
    • Assist in providing Value Engineering throughout the design process to maintain budget
    • Monitor & enforce design milestones & deliverables
    • Provide budget reviews and assess completeness to meeting drawings, specs and design intent
    • Assist in soliciting and compiling project costs to be measured against our historical cost database
    • Provide constructability reviews
    • Provide program level schedule development & overall project tracking
    • Manage financial control and accountability through project completion
    • Create and maintain strategic vendor / contractor relationships
    • Manage, mentor and oversee internal and 3rd party Construction Manager(s) 
    • Source and procure 3rd party resources as necessary
    • Ensure construction compliance with Company policies, safety program, and regulations
    • Help to create new guidelines based on lessons learned and best practices


    • Bachelor’s degree
    • Between 10+ years of experience in retail Construction and/or Development
    • Strong analytical skills with experience in contracts, budgeting and reviewing leases
    • Conscientious, self-directed and entrepreneurial with the ability to work both independently as well as collaboratively with teams
    • Exceptional time management, written and oral communication skills
    • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and must demonstrate a positive, can-do attitude
