  • Overview

    JBG SMITH Properties seeks a talented, proactive and organized team player to join the JBG SMITH Legal Team in its Chevy Chase, Maryland office.   This is a full-time position.

    Responsibilities


    • Draft entity formation and foreign qualification documents, simple operating agreements, regulatory filings, etc., with attorney oversight. Order  good standings, formation certificates, EINs, etc. as requested.  Maintain associated entity lists and structure charts, and ensure timely routing and payment of invoices regarding entity qualification and maintenance.   

    • Draft simple agreements with attorney oversight, including confidentiality agreements, releases, licenses, estoppel certificates, etc.

    • Assume responsibility for the JBG legacy fund investor ownership transfer process, including drafting of transfer documents and associated operating agreement amendments with attorney oversight, and maintenance of transfer logs.

    • Conduct initial review of service of process documents received from registered agent, logging of such documents on department database and updating same, routing same to litigation attorney and finance/project leads as applicable, and monitoring of resolution. Assist with and handle responses to third-party subpoenas and writs of garnishment, with attorney oversight.

    • Participate in all phases of litigation including assisting with the review of pleadings and motions, coordination of document production, preparation of witness binders for depositions and trial, the compilation of exhibit lists, etc. Organization and closing of litigation files.

    • Support corporate records retention and maintenance policies, including assistance in monitoring compliance with electronic discovery and litigation “hold” obligations.

    • Provide assistance as-needed with respect to other legal team responsibilities, including responding to (often simultaneous) document compilation and information requests, as well as associated administrative tasks.

    • Actively participate in the Legal Team’s operational initiatives, including process improvement and development of best practices.

    Qualifications


    • Bachelor’s degree. Paralegal certification preferred.

    • 5 years of relevant work experience at either a law firm or in-house position

    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe suites

    • The candidate must be organized, self-directed, conscientious, and possess strong attention to detail and excellent verbal and written communication skills.

    • Should be collegial and comfortable interacting with individuals at all levels of the organization.

    • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands.
