  • Overview

    This full-time position at a publicly-traded Real Estate Investment Trust with a market capitalization of ~$4 billion directly reviews/prepares work in complex accounting areas such as financial forecasting, revenue recognition, leasing commission calculations, capitalized payroll, joint venture investments, and consolidation. This individual will be expected to work with both internal and external brokers to process and analyze leasing activity and deals within the DC market. Highly motivated, organized problem-solvers will thrive in this role.


    • Collaborate with both internal and external brokers to calculate and process timely commission payments for all leasing activity
    • Track leasing commission payments and contractual milestone dates to ensure proper GAAP revenue recognition
    • Research, gather and provide timely commission payment information in response to internal and external stakeholders
    • Drive the entire commission processing cycle and be a point of contact between Leasing, Asset Management, and Corporate Accounting
    • Analyze leasing commission agreements and develop financial models to forecast future revenue and liabilities associated with this revenue stream
    • Develop annual revenue and expense budgets and track performance throughout the year (including budget vs. actual analytics reviewed by C-Suite executives)
    • Prepare monthly account reconciliations and assist in preparation of commission accrual entries
    • Implement SOX-compliant processes and ensure adherence to agreed-upon controls
    • Summarize weekly leasing activity and provide updates to executives
    • Prepare schedules to be disclosed within various public filings
    • Perform other tasks or special projects as needed

    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field
    • 1-2 years of accounting work experience
    • Public accounting and real estate/REIT experience is preferred
    • Proficient in Microsoft Excel
    • Working knowledge of Yardi is a plus
