    The Portfolio Management team is responsible for coordinating and evaluating portfolio and corporate level analysis for both JBG SMITH and the opportunity funds it manages, specifically for cash planning, balance sheet management, valuation, capital allocation and investor reporting/presentation purposes. Responsibilities include analysis of the reported fair market value of assets for purposes of the annual fund audits and external investor reporting, helping to facilitate the semiannual rollup process, and using those rollups to project fund-level cash flows.

    The Capital Markets team is responsible for JBG SMITH’s debt capital markets activity, including acquisition loans, construction loans, refinancings, etc.  Over the last five years, the Capital Markets team has closed over $8 billion in commercial real estate financing activity.

     

    Additionally, the Financial Analyst will perform detailed analysis on development opportunities and potential new acquisitions.

    Responsibilities

    • Prepare and present memoranda for internal Portfolio Management Committee
    • Manage the JBG SMITH corporate model, internal JBG SMITH valuation model, and the opportunity fund models
    • Assist senior executives with strategic investment and capital allocation decisions
    • Participate in all facets of the commercial real estate loan process
    • Assist in preparing real estate loan request packages for lenders
    • Assist in quarterly financial reporting process
    • Assist with managing the debt portfolio, including coordination with accounting department and investor relations
    • Collaborate with asset management and development teams to devise and implement property-specific business plans
    • Support investment managers during major capital events such as refinance, recapitalization and sale
    • Assist in screening, underwriting and executing new real estate investment opportunities
    • Prepare long term financial forecasts and perform cash flow analysis

     

    Financial Analysts will be expected to help organize various divisions across the company (development, asset management, tax, senior management, etc.) and prepare quantitative and qualitative analysis that will be summarized and presented to an internal Portfolio Management and Investment Committees.

    The chosen candidate will benefit from a broad exposure to all aspects of JBG SMITH's commercial real estate business. Highlights include:

    • Develop analytical and real estate financial modeling and valuation skills across all commercial property types
    • Experience with multiple real estate capital sources and lending programs
    • Develop working knowledge of commercial mortgage loan documentation and the loan closing process
    • Direct interaction with lenders and brokers in the greater Washington, D.C. area
    • Collaborate with development teams, acquisition teams, asset management teams, and JBGS’ senior management
    • Exposure to strategic corporate decision making

    Qualifications

    We are seeking candidates with 1+ year(s) of real estate, investments, or financial experience with exceptional academic records, superior quantitative skills, advanced proficiency with Excel spreadsheets and Argus, strong attention to detail, and excellent written and oral communication skills. Candidates should be entrepreneurial with the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with a variety of teams. Team player who takes personal ownership for performance and work product. Strong organizational skills, with ability to work successfully under pressure and effectively manage time and workload.
