  • Overview

    The Director of Development and Fixed Asset Accounting is responsible for a wide range of accounting activities related to all development projects and recurring/non-recurring capital expenditure projects.



    Essential Team Duties and Responsibilities:  include the following (other duties may be assigned to meet business needs):


    • Manage and oversee a staff of 2-3 employees
    • Responsible for the oversight of accounting for all development projects and all other capital expenditures, including both recurring and non-recurring capital projects
    • Ensure capital projects are within budget and properly approved in accordance with the Delegation of Authority and other internal operating procedures
    • Responsible for capitalized interest calculation and determination of when to begin I end capitalized interest and other capitalized expenses
    • Responsible for preparation of monthly consolidated fixed asset rollforward, reconciliation of subledgers to the general ledger, and actual to budget analysis
    • Responsible for the transfer of project costs to fixed assets and placing assets into service
    • Responsible for billing construction management fees for the company's internal construction group
    • Assist with the calculation and recordation of capitalized payroll
    • Responsible for maintaining the development and capital projects in the company's UltiPro timesheet system
    • Work with development, construction and property teams to ensure that policies and procedures are followed, and monthly reporting is accurate
    • Work with SEC reporting and investments teams to ensure information provided in the 10-Q, 10-K and supplement is accurate as it relates to capital projects
    • Responsible for demolition entries
    • Ensure depreciation is recorded and reconciles to subledgers
    • Assist with the annual budgeting and reforecasting process
    • Establish internal controls and accounting policies and procedures
    • Assist with external/internal audit process
    • Assist with REIT compliance process



    • Team player who is organized, proactive, self-directed, conscientious and assumes accountability and responsibility for specific performance and work product
    • Must possess strong organizational skills and attention to detail
    • Must be comfortable interacting and communicating with individuals at all levels of the organization
    • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands
    • Supervisory experience is required
    • Must have strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
    • Experience with Yardi (a plus, not required)
    • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills


    • Minimum 5-8 years of accounting work experience
    • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field
    • S. GAAP and public accounting experience
    • Licensed CPA
    • REIT I real estate accounting (a plus, not required)
