  • Overview

    The Associate, Retail Asset Management is responsible for working with senior leadership in the Retail Asset Management group to create and implement strategies to maximize the value of the retail assets within their portfolio. This includes all aspects of managing retail investments from monitoring financial performance relative to business plans and budgets to coordinating with leasing and operations to attract and retain retail tenants.

    Responsibilities

    • Sets the strategic direction for each asset in coordination with senior leadership in the Retail Asset Management group and assists in identifying short-term and long-term value creation opportunities
    • Works with the leasing team to analyze lease economics relative to budget/pro forma and makes recommendations in the context of market dynamics
    • Coordinates tenant build-out and capital improvement projects with architects, construction management and property management
    • Maintains relationships with lenders, monitors loan provisions to ensure compliance and actively develops and implements financing strategies
    • Maintains relationships with joint venture partners and third-party owners (where applicable) and manages the budgeting, forecasting, reporting and cash distribution process for each asset
    • Monitors ongoing property performance including review of financial statements and periodic site inspections to ensure that each asset’s performance is progressing consistent with the strategic plan
    • Provides underwriting and due diligence input in connection with new acquisitions or development opportunities and manages the asset disposition process
    • Interacts with many other groups throughout the company including acquisitions, development, property management, leasing, accounting and Senior Management at JBG Smith.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree and preferably a MBA in real estate, management, finance or business administration
    • Between 3-5 years of retail real estate experience in asset management, investments or development
    • Strong analytical skills with experience in financial modeling, budgeting and reviewing retail leases
    • Conscientious, self-directed and entrepreneurial with the ability to work both independently as well as collaboratively with teams
    • Exceptional written and oral communication skills and attention to detail
    • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and must demonstrate a positive, can-do attitude
