  • Overview

    The Tax Department is seeking a motivated, team player to fill the newly created Tax Manager position.  This position reports to the Senior Vice President of Tax and is responsible for the Company’s federal, state and local tax compliance.  This position requires excellent organizational skills, the ability to prioritize work to coincide with internal and external deadlines. 

    This person will have frequent interaction with federal and state taxing authorities, all levels of internal employees, as well as outside consultants (tax advisors, auditors, legal counsel, etc.).  As such the position provides exposure to all facets of the Companies operations and management.  We are looking for a person who is a self-starter and enjoys learning new concepts.


    • Working with outside service providers, review quarterly and annual projected taxable income calculations for partnerships, REITs, and corporations
    • Working with outside service providers, manage federal, state and local tax fillings
    • Review quarterly and annual REIT tests for the public REIT and “baby” REITs
    • Review earnings & profits calculation for dividend classification 1099-DIV reporting
    • Coordinate filing of Form 1099-DIV with the transfer agent
    • Review dividend classification press release
    • Review federal, state and local tax returns for partnerships, REITs, and corporations
    • Review tax provisions for corporate entities
    • Review state apportionment and state withholding calculations
    • Working with tax, IT, and accounting teams to develop automated systems such as:
      • electronic property level tax basis trial balances
      • electronic tax basis fixed asset system (including E&P, AMT & 704 books)
      • electronic tax provision work papers for corporate entities
      • electronic REIT tests
    • Review partner allocations and work paper packages for the outside accountants
    • Review estimated and final income allocations partners
    • Answer questions of outside accountants, partners, and partners’ accountants
    • Answer notices received from taxing authorities


    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, required; Master’s degree in accounting preferred
    • 5 to 7 years related experience (three years of Big Four public accounting experience preferred)
    • Certified Public Accountant required
    • Experience with partnership taxation required
    • Experience with Real Estate Investment Trusts preferred
    • Excellent skills in Microsoft Excel and Word
    • Experience with Yardi accounting software preferred
    • Well-developed analytical, interpersonal and communication (both written and verbal) skills
