Overview

This position is to be the Marketing and Communications Director for Crystal City.

 

Be a thought leader in the overall marketing and communication strategy for the revitalization of JBG SMITH’s Crystal City assets.  Work closely with development, asset management and outside partners to execute the vision.  Develop strategic partnerships with key community organizations and local civic associations and serve as a liaison on behalf of JBG SMITH stakeholders.  Identify ways to leverage partnerships to further the revitalization plan of JBG SMITH’s Crystal City investments.   Develop and execute marketing initiatives to support the revitalization plan.  Develop plans to keep core customers engaged during revitalization projects.

Responsibilities

  • Marketing Plans - develop and implement strategic marketing plans to support the development and asset management goals and objectives for JBG SMITH’s investments in Crystal City.
  • Branding - lead the overarching branding efforts by providing strategic guidance to, and management of, outside agencies.
    • Overarching brand development
    • Temporary signage
      • Construction
      • Way finding
  • Community outreach – work directly with development on developing and executing community outreach to solicit feedback and ideas on project concepts.
    • Develop small community clusters/groups and nominate community champions in the neighborhood.
    • Develop, plan and/or coordinate community outreach, media/public relations functions for the purpose of enhancing community relationships and promoting a positive public image.
  • Research and explore concepts to differentiate the experience of Crystal City that directly support the revitalization efforts
    • Identify new partnerships and programs to bring to the Crystal City community
    • Bring fun, engaging and unexpected programs to the community during a time of construction disruption
  • Engage with key community organizations and local civic associations and serve as a liaison for key stakeholders in the project
    • Work closely with Crystal City BID to maximize impact of branding and events
  • Communications -
    • Develop key influencer platforms to enhance outreach efforts and drive support for revitalization efforts
    • Develop and execute robust social media campaigns
    • Communication through social media and PR to keep core customers engaged
    • Work closely with all departments to insure communications across the Crystal City portfolio are consistent and on message 
  • Support global initiatives that span Crystal City and Pentagon City as a region, e.g. transportation.
  • Budgets – ability to create and manage complex budgets with multiple sources from assets and potential sponsorship solicitation from corporate event partners
  • Continually research and stay abreast of new marketing technology and applications that can be implemented to improve current initiatives and processes.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Skills Required for Position: Someone with 8+ years of marketing experience including mixed-use developments. Ability to effectively interact with internal and external team members and senior management.  Ability to provide strategic direction as it relates to establishing and meeting development and operational marketing goals.

  • Ideal candidate should be interested in state of art innovation in marketing including heavy social media, grass roots activations and broad trends in placemaking
  • Experience in tourism and hospitality a plus
  • Must be able to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Must have strong strategic thinking and analysis skills
  • Desire and ability to lead and execute complex programs
  • In-depth understanding of commercial real estate industry
  • Must be creative thinker with strong decision-making skills
