Financial Analyst in Debt/Capital Markets

US-MD-Chevy Chase


The position will be an analyst position within JBG SMITH’s capital markets department. The department is responsible for JBG SMITH’s debt capital markets activity, including acquisition loans, construction loans, refinancings, etc.  Over the last five years, the capital markets team has closed over $8 billion in commercial real estate financing activity. The main responsibilities of the position will be to:

  • Participate in all facets of the commercial real estate loan process
  • Assist in preparing real estate loan request packages for lenders
  • Assist team in quarterly financial reporting process
  • Interact with internal project teams, lenders and brokers, including coordinating due diligence items and responding to questions and providing market color
  • Assist with managing the debt portfolio, including coordination with accounting department and investor relations

  • Bachelor's degree required (Class of 2016-17), preferably from a top undergraduate program, with a focused major preferably (but not required to be) in finance, economics, or real estate (Note: resumes will not be considered without SAT/GPA)
  • Strong oral and written communication ability (experience with legal documentation a plus)
  • Strong quantitative skills and analytical ability (understanding of real estate fundamentals a plus)
  • Computer proficiency with a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Strong organizational skills, with ability to work successfully under pressure and effectively manage time and workload
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Proven ability and willingness to learn quickly
  • Ability both to work independently and within a small team to build relationships and interact effectively with other divisions within a firm
  • Team player who takes personal ownership for performance and work product

Candidates with the following attributes will be given special consideration:

  • Proven interest and basic understanding of real estate and/or financing principles
  • Prior experience working in commercial real estate investment and/or debt capital markets
  • Demonstrated interest in commercial real estate
  • Knowledge of and/or connection to the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area
