Project Accountant

US-MD-Chevy Chase


The Project Accountant is responsible for preparation of financial statements for a portfolio of fee-managed properties as well as other accounting duties related to the properties such as GL month-end close, cash managements, review of bank reconciliations, account analysis, budgeting/ forecasting updates and analysis. 


  • Closing books on a monthly basis.
  • Prepares monthly financial statement reporting package for assigned properties. Properties are maintained either on a modified accrual, cash or GAAP basis.  Review or prepare annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP or tax as directed by property owner.
  • Prepares audit work papers in preparation for year-end audit. Works with auditors of outside firm to complete audit on time.
  • Assists with property management with budgets for assigned properties, which includes expense analysis, financing, ground rent and escrow analysis for a 10 year forecast.
  • Performs general ledger accounting which includes preparation of account reconciliations, maintaining accurate records for all transactions and month end closing accruals, adjustments, and monthly work papers supporting all balance sheet accounts.
  • Reviews rent rolls, accounts receivable reports and other related reports. Ensures financial reports tie to general ledger.
  • Provide any necessary accounting support to Property Managers as needed.
  • Provide ad hoc reporting for properties debt compliance to mortgage lenders.
  • Must be able to work the hours necessary to accomplish essential duties and responsibilities, including during busy accounting periods such as month-end closes, the annual budget cycle, reforecasting, interim audits, etc.
  • Exceptional attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this position.



  • Bachelors Degree (strongly preferred in Accounting) required. 
  • 2-3 years of similar experience required. 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:


CPA certificate preferred.


Technical Experience: 

  • Advanced skills in MS Word, Excel; intermediate capabilities with Windows and the operation of a PC in general.
  • Exposure and/or work experience in Yardi Voyager is a plus  

Other Skills/Requirements: 

  • Knowledge of public accounting and real estate preferred.
  • Ability to communicate confidently and successfully.
  • Customer service attitude.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Ability to take initiative and prioritize workload to meet deadlines as well as both internal and external customers.
  • Strong financial/analytical and organization skills, including the ability to keep meticulous records/files.
