Overview

The Tax Department is seeking a motivated, out going, team player to fill the newly created Tax Senior accountant position.  This position reports to the Senior Vice President of Taxation.  This position requires excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize work to coincide with internal and external deadlines.  This person will have frequent interaction with all levels of internal employees, as well as outside consultants (tax advisors, auditors, legal counsel, etc.).  As such the position provides exposure to all facets of the Companies operations and management.  We are looking for a person who is a self-starter willing to expand their tax knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Working with outside service providers, coordinate quarterly and annual projected taxable income calculations for partnerships, REITs, and corporations
  • Working with outside service providers, coordinate federal, state and local income tax returns for partnerships, REITs, and corporations.
  • Working with outside service providers, coordinate quarterly and annual REIT tests for the public REIT and “baby” REITs
  • Working with tax, IT, and accounting teams to develop automated systems such as:
    • electronic property level tax basis trial balances
    • electronic tax basis fixed asset system (including E&P, AMT & 704 books)
    • electronic tax provision work papers for corporate entities
    • electronic REIT tests
  • Coordinate fixed assets for federal, E&P, and 704(c) allocations
  • Review estimated tax payment and extension forms
  • Prepare tax provision work papers for corporate entities
  • Prepare several lower level corporate and partnership returns
  • Prepare state apportionment
  • Review and maintain entity lists
  • Assist in answering notices received from taxing authorities
  • Assist with various special projects as they arise

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting required; Master’s degree in accounting preferred
  • 3 to 4 years accounting experience (three years of public accounting experience preferred)
  • Certified Public Accountant or candidate preferred
  • Experience with partnership taxation preferred
  • Experience with Real Estate Investment Trust preferred
  • Excellent skills in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Experience with Yardi accounting software preferred
  • Well-developed analytical, interpersonal and communication (both written and verbal) skills
