Vice President of SEC Reporting

The Vice President of SEC Reporting will oversee and manage all elements of JBG SMITH’s internal and external reporting, including the Company’s financial statements as prepared in accordance with U.S. GAAP and filed with the SEC. This individual will monitor and evaluate the impact of new accounting pronouncements on the Company’s financial results and administer the documentation with regards to the Company’s policies and procedures for the purposes of Sarbanes-Oxley compliance. This individual will also work closely with both internal and external auditors to ensure the timely completion of the financial statement and internal control audits.


  • Manage and oversee a staff of 1-4 employees
  • Manage the Company's external SEC Reporting, including the preparation of our Quarterly and Annual Reports on Forms 10-Q and 10-K, respectively, and quarterly supplemental information packages, as well as our compliance with XBRL tagging requirements
  • Review and interpret new accounting and reporting standards and ensure that the Company adopts such standards on a timely and accurate basis
  • Review (and manage the preparation of) all key technical accounting analyses under U.S. GAAP
  • Manage the Company’s process for SOX compliance, including updating and maintaining internal control policies and procedures documentation and coordinating external audits
  • Maintain the Company's stock compensation schedules and records
  • Maintain the Company's equity reconciliations and earnings per share calculations
  • Provide GAAP and SEC training for the accounting department
  • Assist with external/internal audit process
  • Participate/assist in special projects on an as needed basis


  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA License
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of related accounting experience; Commercial real estate experience is preferred
  • Supervisory experience is required
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP, internal controls and SEC financial reporting
  • Experience with Yardi is preferred
  • Commitment to excellence in their work product
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Advanced knowledge and use of Microsoft Excel, working knowledge of Word
  • Ability to work well under pressure with tight deadlines
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously, work with minimal supervision and thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Self-motivated and independent, detailed oriented, strong work ethic, and high integrity and ethical standards
  • Proven ability to manage projects and collaborate with cross functional teams
  • Aptitude for learning new systems and implementation
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
